Last day of employment

This is my last day with my current employer.  My immediate boss (Matt) bought me lunch on Wednesday and his boss (Terrance) is buying the whole office lunch today.  After work I’m retiring to a local bar with all the newly-ex coworkers.  For those who don’t know, I’m a senior systems administrator at a company that primarily leases and provides support for Windows and Linux dedicated servers.  For those who just read that sentence and still don’t know, I’m basically manager of the tech support department, and we keep the Internet running.  I’ve been at this company for over six years, and I’ve made some good friends.  It’s too bad the new owners don’t value or respect their employees.

I patched and painted all the holes in my apartment wall this week, and my landlord is showing my apartment to people today.  I think there’s also a viewing scheduled for Monday.  This trend will probably continue.  I’ve given away a few boxes of junk to friends and coworkers so my apartment is starting to look quite tidy.  I’ve also gathered all of my hiking equipment into my backpack so I don’t lose crucial equipment amongst the myriad of boxes during the move.  My parents are coming to help me move on Saturday March 26.  I could probably move sooner than that, but I’ve got plans.

After I’m done at the bar tonight I’m heading back home to my apartment and packing up my TV, PS3 and computer, then I’m heading to my friend Jason’s house for a LAN party.  I’ll also be bringing a case of my own home-brewed beer and the theatre-stye popcorn machine which was a Christmas gift from my sister.  It should be a good weekend.  This is why I can’t move out this weekend.

On Saturday March 19 I’m having a proper farewell party of sorts.  I plan on spending the entire day on Main Street bar-hopping and devouring burritos from Pablo’s.  All friends and coworkers are invited to join me.  I anticipate using Sunday as a recovery period.  This is why I can’t move out that weekend.  Hence, I’ll be renting a U-Haul on the 26th.  That gives me about two weeks at my parents’ to prep for my hike.
