Hiked to my grandparents’ house and back today, which is a total of 7.2 miles. Maintained an average speed of 3.9 mph during the hike. The backs of my knees are a bit tight, but I’ve gone without ibuprofen so far, so I’m in pretty good shape overall. If I can maintain 3.9 mph on the AT, I’ll hit Hawk Mtn Shelter in 2 hours. That’s insane. So insane, in fact, that it’s likely impossible. The terrain will be more difficult on the AT, so 2.5 mph is more likely. Still, with a 25 pound pack and being in relatively good shape already, I should make pretty good time, and I’m looking forward to some high-mileage days once I’m hiking-fit.
